Japan Black Paint of Gilsonite
By Bruce Clark

Many years ago one of my neighbors related a story about how,
during the depression, she and her husband manufactured a very shiny
black durable paint and sold it for painting automobiles. As I recall,
they used a product called "Gilsonite" and mixed it with gasoline.

 [ Found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilsonite :
 [
[ Gilsonite(tm) is a brand name of a natural asphalt mineral called
[ uintaite or uintahite. It was used by Ford Motor Company as
[ a principal component of the Japan Black [paint] used on most of
[ the Ford Model T cars.
 [
[ Henry Ford painted cars with it because it dried quickly, especially
[ when thinned with benzene or gasoline. True lacquer finishes need
[ several days. More at http://zieglerchemical.com/gilsonit.htm
